The interview covered not only the launch of Preet’s book, RRSPs: The Definitive Guide to Registered Retirement Savings Plans, but also Preet’s approach to managing client portfolios which includes the extensive use of very low cost ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds).

Larry MacDonald quotes Preet and cites some examples of using Spousal RRSPs from Preet’s book, RRSPs, on this Valentine’s day article titled, Love is in the air: Spousal RRSPs.

A Spousal RRSP can be opened up for a spouse or common-law partner where the contributor claims the RRSP contribution and the Spousal RRSP holder claims the withdrawals in retirement on his or her tax return. This allows for more flexibility for splitting income (especially if you plan on retiring before 65).
